Blanche Selva (1884 – 1942) was a French pianist, music educator, writer and composer. Although born in central France, she was of Catalan origin, and in 1924 she moved to Barcelona, where she founded her own music school. In Barcelona, Selva performed in a duo with violinist Joan Massià, whom she married.
She published books on piano technique and Beethoven's sonatas, as well as editing and transcribing music. Her own compositions were not exclusively for the piano.
The two impressionistic pieces here are both about bells. Cloches dans la brume (Bells in the mist), subtitled Cloches d'Ardèche (Bells of Ardèche) contains a central section of fast music describing a distant carillon. Cloches au soleil (Bells in the sun) is subtitled Cloches d'Italie (Bells of Italy).
